A recent study, however, found that these diets are actually more harmful than normal eating patterns.  The study compared groups on a low fat diet with similar groups eating an average diet.  The studies found that serious damage to your body can result from low fat diets.</p>
<p>It is recommended that at least 35% of your calorie intake comes from fat each day.  This amount of fat is needed to fight certain diseases, including several types of cancer, heart disease, and even obesity.  Most low fat diets incorporate only 10% of the total calorie intake from fat, increasing risks of heart complications, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other health problems.</p>
<p>Why Low Carb Diets Don&#8217;t Work</p>
<p>The Atkins Diet was one of the most sought after diet plans for years.  The main downfall of low carb diets is that they are nearly impossible to follow if you don&#8217;t want to completely rearrange your life.  If you want to lose weight the majority of these diets have strict guidelines that must be followed. <p>Fad diet have been popular for years, and every year thousands of people search the internet for the recipe for that famous cabbage soup &#8211; or they decide to go on the 3 day diet or the grapefruit diet, or the mayo clinic diet.</p>
<p>All fad diets claim that a certain extremely limited group of foods will help you lose weight really fast. For instance, the cabbage soup diet consists of mostly cabbage, potatoes and bananas. The three-day diet lets you eat grapefruit, a <span id="more-239"></span>little bit of tuna, a tiny amount of meat or chicken, some veggies, and, strangely enough, a cup of ice cream. The so-called Israeli army diet only lets you eat one kind of food a day &#8211; apples one day, cheese the next, and so on.</p>
<p>You really do lose weight on these diets. You have to. These diets used to be called starvation diets for a reason.</p>
<p>But if you go on one of these diets, or any low-calorie diet, for that matter, you want to make sure you don&#8217;t want to throw away your fat clothes, because within just a few weeks after going off the diet you&#8217;ll weigh more than you did when you started.</p>
<p>Starvation will cause you to lose weight, there&#8217;s no question about it. But scientists have known for over 91 years that one of the almost inevitable results of starvation is weight gain. Your body objects strongly to not being given enough food to keep its internal fires burning, and it can&#8217;t survive for long without the nutrients it needs to keep all the various functions of it&#8217;s cells working properly.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why you slow down when you&#8217;re on a low-fat diet. You feel tired and irritable because your body is trying to conserve the little amount of food you&#8217;re feeding it.</p>
<p>You also get cravings for food &#8211; almost any food will do, but the cravings are especially strong for the very foods that make us fat &#8211; the sugars and breads and pastas and other simple carbohydrates that make us store extra body fat. Since starvation is a threat to your survival, the cravings will continue to get stronger until they&#8217;re absolutely uncontrollable.</p>
<p>Then you go off the diet, and gain back all the weight you lost. Most people go on to gain an additional 3 to 8 pounds.</p>
<p>And weight gain is obviously not what you had in mind when you started on the diet in the first place.</p>
<p>But the inevitable weight gain is just one of the reasons why fad diets are such a bad idea.</p>
<p>The other reasons are considerably more serious. On the rare occasions when a doctor prescribes a very low calorie diet, of 900 calories a day or less, they almost always require that their patients get constant medical supervision. That&#8217;s because this qualified as a starvation diet, and they can be very risky.</p>
<p>Even &#8216;normal&#8217; reduced calorie diets have health consequences. That scientific study I mentioned earlier put healthy college students on a reduced calorie diet to see how their minds and bodies would react.</p>
<p>The study volunteers actually ate more calories than the kind of diet that almost every doctor tells you to go on when he thinks you&#8217;re overweight, and they certainly ate way more calories than you get on most fad diets, like the cabbage soup diet and the 3-day diet. The study had the students eat from 1400 to 2100 calories a day.</p>
<p>A later study done in 1945 for the US army found that the symptoms would get worse if you added exercise to the program.</p>
<p>When I found out about this study, it made me downright angry &#8211;  why haven&#8217;t we been told that  scientists have known for over 91 years  that low-calorie and low-fat diets actually cause the following health problems: Listen closely to this list, because this is what you may experience if you go on any of the currently popular weight loss diets:</p>
<p>* Weight gain.<br />
* Depression.<br />
* Food cravings.<br />
* Feeling tired and listless.<br />
* Constant hunger.<br />
* Reduced interest in sex.<br />
* Chronic fatigue.<br />
* Hypothyroidism.<br />

<p>Most people believe that the only way to lose weight is to cut back on the calories, even though scientists have known for almost a century that those serious psychological and physical problems could result.</p>

<p>Depression, mood swings, and chronic fatigue. It is impossible to be motivated to stay on a diet, (or to do anything else, for that matter), when you suffer from chronic depression.</p>
<p>Heck, those healthy college-aged men who participated in the low-calorie diet studies even lost their interest in sex.</p>

<p>The pre-maintenance phase is when you are about 5-10 pounds away from your desired body weight. In this phase, you can add about 10 grams of carbohydrates per week. </p>
<p>The lifetime maintenance phase occurs when you have reached the targeted body weight. You can now take up to 120 grams of carbohydrates a day. You have to assert that the food you eat will not increase your weight dramatically or else you might have to start the diet all over again. </p>
<p>While you might think that Atkins diet sheet is a good diet plan, it is not. Why? This diet plan restricts you from eating healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. <p>Due to water loss from this period, as a reaction to the starvation process, you will quickly lose weight. And, as you continue to starve, your body starts working in order to keep up with the energy needs. But you are still not burning fats and as you avoid fats in your diet, your body will try to preserve the fat that it has in its store. And if you continue your diet up to a month your body will burn its stored fats having no other alternative to stay alive.</p>
<p>After this period the dieter starts getting weaker and he is not able to feel well and perform its normal duties because it requires a lot more effort and time for the body to produce energy from fat rather than from muscle.</p>
<p>At a certain time the dieter is back to his normal eating habit but it will take some time before the reconstruction of your muscle occurs and during this time, the body stores most of the food intake as excess fats. Therefore at the end of the reconstruction process, the dieter is back to his initial weight gaining back the weight he lost in the starvation process and little bit more.</p>
<p>A diet regards the proper nutrition for a normally developed human and it should contain vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates AND fats. An imbalanced process may cause starvation or excessive reserves of body fat.</p>
<p>By using fad diets in your weight loss process your body will experience both starvation and weight gain in a short amount of time.</p>

<p>Eating disorders are abnormal addictive behaviors, which cause food addiction problems. Many are suffering from food addiction because of fad diets.</p>
<p>What are fad diets?</p>
<p>Fad diets are the popular diets touted to make you thin or to cure a certain health problem you may have. Fad diets come and go. Examples of fad diets are the Atkins Diet, the Weight Watchers Diet, and the South Beach Diet, among <span id="more-248"></span>many others.</p>
<p>Nearly all of these fad diets are based on the principle of calorie restriction &#8211; which essentially means depriving yourself of food or eating only certain types of food while avoiding others, and following diligently some set of rules of eating.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, many of these fad diets failed for two reasons.</p>
<p>Firstly, many individuals fail to adhere to these dieting plans. They do not have the discipline to follow through the set of rules of eating dictated by each fad diet plan. They succumb to the urge of eating. Who would blame them? After all, normal eating is a normal instinct in any individual. To force oneself to eat abnormally is against human instinct. Abnormal eating creates behavioral problems, which often lead to addictive behaviors and food addiction problems, such as anorexia and bulimia.</p>
<p>Secondly, dieting impairs your body&#8217;s metabolism, which ultimately will turn back on you. Diets, even the relatively healthy ones, are only short-term solutions to your weight or health problems. Down the road, these fad diets will create more problems than what they have solved.</p>
<p>For years, many nutrition experts have warned against going for fad diets, which often promote unhealthy preoccupation with food, instead of normal eating. Abnormal or unhealthy eating behaviors play havoc with your body&#8217;s metabolism, which is the rate at which you burn calories. Your metabolic rate holds the key to weight loss. When you go on a fad diet, you are in fact &#8220;starving&#8221; your body, which, out of its natural instinct for survival, will automatically reduce its metabolic rate. As a result, you are not exactly losing the weight you so desperately wish to lose. The initial weight loss from any fad diet may be only the loss of water due to the sudden change in your eating patterns, not the extra pounds you want to shed. Worse, when you stop dieting, you metabolic rate goes up again, but not to where it originally was; in other words, yo-yo dieting (on-and-off dieting) may lead to malfunctioning of your body&#8217;s metabolism until it can no longer burn calories efficiently. The implication is that your body has learned to maintain its weight with fewer calories. In other words, your effort in dieting has been a waste of good intentions. The net result is ultimate weight gain for you, not the weight loss you had hoped for.</p>
<p>Dieting is only a temporary weight control solution. According to dietitians, unless you change your lifestyle, or can adhere diligently and persistently to your chosen diet regimen for the rest of your life, losing weight permanently is impossible.</p>
<p>The danger of embracing one fad diet after another is that your overt preoccupation with your weight and appearance, such as counting calories, carbohydrates, and worrying about fat content of you food, may turn into an obsession, which will develop into eating disorders down the road.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s a Fact &#8211; Diets will only make you fatter.</p>
<p>When it comes to the latest in Diet fads, we are quite gullible and easily tempted by a Diet&#8217;s empty promised. Reason being&#8230;.the diet industry KNOWS we are in search of the &#8220;quick fix&#8221; and <span id="more-241"></span>will only play with our emotions &#8211; our desperation for the quickest way to relieve looking and feeling fat.</p>
<p>Diets are nothing more than Temporary Solutions with many lingering, negative side effects.</p>
<p>Here are the Top 10 Reasons Why you should NOT &#8220;go&#8221; on a Diet</p>
<p>1. Diets do NOT work.</p>
<p>Diets have a 99% Failure Rate. Have you noticed a pattern yet? Lose weight&#8230;.quickly regain it? Over time, studies show if you diet you are more likely to be overweight than people who eat normally and make small gradual changes to their lifestyle. No, the Law of Averages does not apply to this faulty system.</p>
<p>2. Dieting can be Dangerous.</p>
<p>Any time you severely restrict the amount or types of foods you eat you put your health and life at risk. Dieting has been related to injuries and sudden deaths from electrolyte imbalance, malnutrition, and heart arrhythmia&#8217;s. Weight cycling, or yo-yo-ing weight, is associated with higher death rates &#8211; especially if some type of pills are being used. At no point should you ever place weight loss above your health.</p>
<p>3. Dieting Destroys your Metabolism.</p>
<p>Diets will cause your weight to quickly cycle up and down. Sure, you may lose weight quickly because you are simply not eating enough. In the initial stages, the first seven to nine pounds lost are water, presenting a real danger of dehydration and mineral deficiencies. Even more terrifying ins the break down of lean muscle due to inefficient nutrients and calories. If you are losing more than 3-4 pounds a week, you can be sure this is what is happening &#8211; very little fat is lost this state.</p>
<p>Now, any muscle loss will cause your metabolism slow to a crawl. The cumulative effect takes place for you cannot survive very long on very low calories (1200 or less) and you will eventually eat more &#8211; on top of a slower metabolism. All those excess calories will be stored as fat &#8211; causing rapid weight gain.</p>
<p>4. Dieting is Exhausting.</p>
<p>Diets are just reduced calorie Fads disguised by a clever gimmick. &#8220;Lose weight while you sleep&#8221; &#8220;Eat all you want and still lose weight&#8221; Not eating enough or cutting out certain food groups means your body may not be getting the energy it needs, or may lack certain nutrients. You will feel exhausted, light headed and experience some not-so-fun mood swings.</p>
<p>5. Dieting is Disruptive.</p>
<p>Dieting negatively affects your normal eating patterns. Diets can lead to binge eating, overeating and chaotic eating. When you diet, it is common to override your internal signals telling you to eat. You end up trying to use willpower or resist hunger signals and may even go as far as taking appetite suppressants. This results in being unable to know when you really are hungry or wore&#8230;.when you&#8217;re full.</p>
<p>6. Dieting can lead to eating disorders.</p>
<p>Experts state that the high rates of eating disorders in the U.S. are due in part to people dieting, losing weight, rebounding, and becoming chronic dieters.</p>
<p>7. Dieting Causes Food Obsessions.</p>
<p>If you spend a large amount of time and energy depriving yourself of food or certain types of food &#8211; you will spend more time thinking about food and become obsessed attempts to control your weight by what you choose to eat or not eat. How long do you want to live like this?</p>
<p>8. Dieting Diminishes Women.</p>
<p>There is way too much attention focused on our appearance and an arbitrary number on the scale. In the midst of this focus &#8211; we end up avoiding what really matters to us &#8211; our dreams and ambitions. Even worse, it erodes our confidence and self-respect.</p>
<p>9. Dieting Intensifies Negativity.</p>
<p>If you diet, you are more judgmental and critical of yourself and others. Once again, wasted time and energy.</p>
<p>10. Diets Put Your Life on Hold.</p>

<p>Diets that claim to assist you in rapid weight loss are based on eating just one type of food and avoiding the rest. <p>Rapid weight loss diet plans are temporary solutions and cannot help you in making some permanent changes in our dietary habits. It&#8217;s only through these permanent changes that you can actually maintain the weight that you&#8217;ve lost. Fad diets egg on yo-yo diet-binge cycles of rapid weight loss and also equally rapid weight gain. This is the worst thing for your health as well as your self esteem, staying over weight all your life would have been a better choice.</p>
