<p>Most diets simply don&#8217;t work.  If you&#8217;ve ever been faced with the challenge of losing weight, whether it was a couple pounds or many, you already know how difficult it can be.  There are thousand of different diet plans on the market and most of them promise to help you lose weight.  Many of them claim to help you lose weight fast.  But the majority will only waste your time and your money.</p>
<p>Why Low Fat Diets Don&#8217;t Work</p>
<p>Diets that decrease your<span id="more-244"></span> daily fat intake have been extremely popular, along with the many different low fat and no fat foods available.  A recent study, however, found that these diets are actually more harmful than normal eating patterns.  The study compared groups on a low fat diet with similar groups eating an average diet.  The studies found that serious damage to your body can result from low fat diets.</p>
<p>It is recommended that at least 35% of your calorie intake comes from fat each day.  This amount of fat is needed to fight certain diseases, including several types of cancer, heart disease, and even obesity.  Most low fat diets incorporate only 10% of the total calorie intake from fat, increasing risks of heart complications, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other health problems.</p>
<p>Why Low Carb Diets Don&#8217;t Work</p>
<p>The Atkins Diet was one of the most sought after diet plans for years.  The main downfall of low carb diets is that they are nearly impossible to follow if you don&#8217;t want to completely rearrange your life.  If you want to lose weight the majority of these diets have strict guidelines that must be followed.  Time spent weighing food portions and preparing special meals, not to mention the extra costs involved in these meals, can make many people give up on a low carb plan.</p>
<p>Those who aren&#8217;t bothered by the stringent meal requirements will often give up as well.  Tiredness, loss of energy, and a lack of concentration are all typical side effects of decreasing your carbohydrate intake and can make it extremely hard to focus on your daily responsibilities.</p>
<p>Why Low Calorie Diets Don&#8217;t Work</p>
<p>Low calorie diets seem like sensible weight loss plans.  You eat less and you lose weight.  Don&#8217;t you wish it were that simple!  The truth be told low calorie diets can cause you to gain weight.  The assumption is that your body will burn calories at it&#8217;s usual rate even when you eat less.</p>
<p>The fact is, your body bases your metabolism rate on the average number of calories you typically take in.  This means within the first few days of starting a low calorie diet, your body catches on and adjusts your metabolism.  You may burn a small amount of fat during the first three days but then your body will assume it&#8217;s your normal diet and will burn fewer calories.  When the diet ends, there&#8217;s a big chance you will gain weight as your metabolism rate adjusts again to a normal calorie intake.</p>
<p>Is There a Diet That Does Work?</p>
<p>Losing weight is not a hopeless cause, even with all the diets that just don&#8217;t work.  You&#8217;ve probably had your own experience with at least one of the dieting failures already mentioned, but there is a diet plan that works.  Why not use your bodies fat burning abilities to lose weight rather than cutting carb&#8217;s or fat!</p>

<p>Fad diet have been popular for years, and every year thousands of people search the internet for the recipe for that famous cabbage soup &#8211; or they decide to go on the 3 day diet or the grapefruit diet, or the mayo clinic diet.</p>
<p>All fad diets claim that a certain extremely limited group of foods will help you lose weight really fast. For instance, the cabbage soup diet consists of mostly cabbage, potatoes and bananas. The three-day diet lets you eat grapefruit, a <span id="more-239"></span>little bit of tuna, a tiny amount of meat or chicken, some veggies, and, strangely enough, a cup of ice cream. The so-called Israeli army diet only lets you eat one kind of food a day &#8211; apples one day, cheese the next, and so on.</p>
<p>You really do lose weight on these diets. You have to. These diets used to be called starvation diets for a reason.</p>
<p>But if you go on one of these diets, or any low-calorie diet, for that matter, you want to make sure you don&#8217;t want to throw away your fat clothes, because within just a few weeks after going off the diet you&#8217;ll weigh more than you did when you started.</p>
<p>Starvation will cause you to lose weight, there&#8217;s no question about it. But scientists have known for over 91 years that one of the almost inevitable results of starvation is weight gain. Your body objects strongly to not being given enough food to keep its internal fires burning, and it can&#8217;t survive for long without the nutrients it needs to keep all the various functions of it&#8217;s cells working properly.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why you slow down when you&#8217;re on a low-fat diet. You feel tired and irritable because your body is trying to conserve the little amount of food you&#8217;re feeding it.</p>
<p>You also get cravings for food &#8211; almost any food will do, but the cravings are especially strong for the very foods that make us fat &#8211; the sugars and breads and pastas and other simple carbohydrates that make us store extra body fat. Since starvation is a threat to your survival, the cravings will continue to get stronger until they&#8217;re absolutely uncontrollable.</p>
<p>Then you go off the diet, and gain back all the weight you lost. Most people go on to gain an additional 3 to 8 pounds.</p>
<p>And weight gain is obviously not what you had in mind when you started on the diet in the first place.</p>
<p>But the inevitable weight gain is just one of the reasons why fad diets are such a bad idea.</p>
<p>The other reasons are considerably more serious. On the rare occasions when a doctor prescribes a very low calorie diet, of 900 calories a day or less, they almost always require that their patients get constant medical supervision. That&#8217;s because this qualified as a starvation diet, and they can be very risky.</p>
<p>Even &#8216;normal&#8217; reduced calorie diets have health consequences. That scientific study I mentioned earlier put healthy college students on a reduced calorie diet to see how their minds and bodies would react.</p>
<p>The study volunteers actually ate more calories than the kind of diet that almost every doctor tells you to go on when he thinks you&#8217;re overweight, and they certainly ate way more calories than you get on most fad diets, like the cabbage soup diet and the 3-day diet. The study had the students eat from 1400 to 2100 calories a day.</p>
<p>A later study done in 1945 for the US army found that the symptoms would get worse if you added exercise to the program.</p>
<p>When I found out about this study, it made me downright angry &#8211;  why haven&#8217;t we been told that  scientists have known for over 91 years  that low-calorie and low-fat diets actually cause the following health problems: Listen closely to this list, because this is what you may experience if you go on any of the currently popular weight loss diets:</p>
<p>* Weight gain.<br />
* Depression.<br />
* Food cravings.<br />
* Feeling tired and listless.<br />
* Constant hunger.<br />
* Reduced interest in sex.<br />
* Chronic fatigue.<br />
* Hypothyroidism.<br />
* Hormone imbalance.2100<br />
* Scaly skin or eczema.<br />
* Premature wrinkling of the skin.<br />
* Dandruff or dull, lifeless hair.<br />
* Mood swings.<br />
* Chronic yeast infections.<br />
* Poor immune system &#8211; frequent colds or respiratory illnesses.<br />
* Digestive problems.</p>
<p>Most people believe that the only way to lose weight is to cut back on the calories, even though scientists have known for almost a century that those serious psychological and physical problems could result.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s take a close look at some of the most serious symptoms on that list:</p>
<p>Depression, mood swings, and chronic fatigue. It is impossible to be motivated to stay on a diet, (or to do anything else, for that matter), when you suffer from chronic depression.</p>
<p>Heck, those healthy college-aged men who participated in the low-calorie diet studies even lost their interest in sex.</p>
<p>And many people take antidepressants, like Wellbutrin, for both depression and to lose weight.</p>
<p>Two important studies have found that the depression caused by a reduced calorie diet may actually get worse for a while after you start eating normally again. It takes time for the body to recover from semi-starvation eating plans.</p>
<p>Constant hunger and food cravings, especially for refined carbs: When you combine the lack of motivation that always accompanies depression and chronic fatigue, and match it up with constant hunger and food cravings, it shouldn&#8217;t come as much of a surprise to find out that most people who start a low-calorie diet will actually end up gaining weight.</p>
<p>The only safe way to lose weight is to eat a correctly balanced diet that gives your body all the nutrients it needs, every single day. Stop eating the kinds of foods that cause the excess storage of body fat, and eat lots of the foods that help you lose weight faster.</p>

<p>Once you start a weight loss plan or a new diet you will probably find that for the first two to three weeks your weight loss plan worked quite dramatically, weight was dropping off you as the plan promotion said it would; but then you hit the wall.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t uncommon as many people find that this will happen every time they start a new weight loss plan; most diets and plans are sold on the premise that you will see quick and emphatic weight loss and this is becau<span id="more-207"></span>se ALL diets do have this effect. As the body adjusts to a lower calorie intake it still continues to burn calories at the older higher level; result: weight loss.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, weight loss plans generally have great results in the short term and the reason for this is that your body adjusts to survive on the reduced calorie intake and at that the point the body has adjusted and will stop losing weight.</p>
<p>When you reach this point, it is generally known as the weight loss plateau, the only way to counter this effect is to alter your lifestyle; changes to eating habits and the type of foods you eat on a regular basis and of course, regular exercise.</p>

<p>The problem is if they go back to how they were eating previously, prior to starting their weight loss plan, they will probably become heavier than they were before they started as their body has to adapt yet again, but this time to a higher calorie intake. <p>Most weight loss plans probably consist of the same types of food eaten daily and possibly the same type of exercise routine. The problem is that our bodies are smart and they naturally go into survival mode by adapting to burn fewer calories in order to make the energy reserves, stored in the body, last longer.<br />
In order to go beyond this point, you must change the way you eat and exercise, a complete lifestyle turnaround.</p>
<p>Here are a couple of methods that will help you move off the weight loss plateau and continue with successful weight reduction.</p>
<p>1. Never lower your calorie intake to a point where the body stops burning calories altogether, it can and will happen. You need to find foodstuffs that you can eat as much of as you like, that will take more calories to digest than they actually contain. These are commonly known as &#8216;negative&#8217; calorie foods. <p>The answer is simple&#8230;fad diets are not natural.</p>
<p>Fad diet is the term that describes an array of diet approaches used to temporarily lose weight through unsafe and unrealistic methods. Quick fix programs do not work&#8230;although millions of dollars are spent each year. These programs offer a quick loss of weight but sadly the weight is gained right back because people return to their old eating habits and old life style.</p>
<p>There are many kinds of<span id="more-253"></span> fad diets. Avoid those types of diets that recommend a certain nutrient, or combination of foods encouraging you to loss weight fast. Fad diets do not teach lifestyle habits for long-term weight management, they do not help people gain the will power to change a lifestyle with another.</p>
<p>Diets promoting a very low calorie system, approximately 1,000 to 1,500 calories per day and with no exercise program cause the body to become less efficient at burning fat, making it easier to store fat and regained weight each time a diet is stopped. In the long run this fad diets makes a person fatter instead of leaner. Ultimately these fad diets are not safe.</p>
<p>Only your weight and exercise level determines the number of calories that is right for your diet program and only healthy lifestyle habits will maintain long-term weight control. Healthy lifestyle habits include regular exercise, behavior modification, and a healthy, nutritious diet with a wide variety of foods.</p>
<p>People should be aware of their health problems before engaging in a diet program. All diets should include a warning to check with a specialist before trying a diet. Also most fad diets make no mention of physical activity, which is essential in the process of weight loss and some of these diets can actually harm one’s health.</p>
<p>The majority of fad diets involve a 10 day to 1 month period in which your diet is restricted to a select collection of bad-tasting, inconsistent health foods or recipes. The fads diet is generally advising you to completely avoided fats.</p>
<p>Due to water loss from this period, as a reaction to the starvation process, you will quickly lose weight. And, as you continue to starve, your body starts working in order to keep up with the energy needs. But you are still not burning fats and as you avoid fats in your diet, your body will try to preserve the fat that it has in its store. And if you continue your diet up to a month your body will burn its stored fats having no other alternative to stay alive.</p>
<p>After this period the dieter starts getting weaker and he is not able to feel well and perform its normal duties because it requires a lot more effort and time for the body to produce energy from fat rather than from muscle.</p>
<p>At a certain time the dieter is back to his normal eating habit but it will take some time before the reconstruction of your muscle occurs and during this time, the body stores most of the food intake as excess fats. Therefore at the end of the reconstruction process, the dieter is back to his initial weight gaining back the weight he lost in the starvation process and little bit more.</p>
<p>A diet regards the proper nutrition for a normally developed human and it should contain vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates AND fats. An imbalanced process may cause starvation or excessive reserves of body fat.</p>
<p>By using fad diets in your weight loss process your body will experience both starvation and weight gain in a short amount of time.</p>

<p>The only thing growing faster than the $65 billion diet industry is the American waistline. If one of your New Years resolutions was to Go on a Diet, the only place I guarantee you will go&#8230;.is up in weight.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a Fact &#8211; Diets will only make you fatter.</p>
<p>When it comes to the latest in Diet fads, we are quite gullible and easily tempted by a Diet&#8217;s empty promised. Reason being&#8230;.the diet industry KNOWS we are in search of the &#8220;quick fix&#8221; and <span id="more-241"></span>will only play with our emotions &#8211; our desperation for the quickest way to relieve looking and feeling fat.</p>
<p>Diets are nothing more than Temporary Solutions with many lingering, negative side effects.</p>
<p>Here are the Top 10 Reasons Why you should NOT &#8220;go&#8221; on a Diet</p>
<p>1. Diets do NOT work.</p>
<p>Diets have a 99% Failure Rate. Have you noticed a pattern yet? Lose weight&#8230;.quickly regain it? Over time, studies show if you diet you are more likely to be overweight than people who eat normally and make small gradual changes to their lifestyle. No, the Law of Averages does not apply to this faulty system.</p>
<p>2. Dieting can be Dangerous.</p>
<p>Any time you severely restrict the amount or types of foods you eat you put your health and life at risk. Dieting has been related to injuries and sudden deaths from electrolyte imbalance, malnutrition, and heart arrhythmia&#8217;s. Weight cycling, or yo-yo-ing weight, is associated with higher death rates &#8211; especially if some type of pills are being used. At no point should you ever place weight loss above your health.</p>
<p>3. Dieting Destroys your Metabolism.</p>
<p>Diets will cause your weight to quickly cycle up and down. Sure, you may lose weight quickly because you are simply not eating enough. In the initial stages, the first seven to nine pounds lost are water, presenting a real danger of dehydration and mineral deficiencies. Even more terrifying ins the break down of lean muscle due to inefficient nutrients and calories. If you are losing more than 3-4 pounds a week, you can be sure this is what is happening &#8211; very little fat is lost this state.</p>
<p>Now, any muscle loss will cause your metabolism slow to a crawl. The cumulative effect takes place for you cannot survive very long on very low calories (1200 or less) and you will eventually eat more &#8211; on top of a slower metabolism. All those excess calories will be stored as fat &#8211; causing rapid weight gain.</p>
<p>4. Dieting is Exhausting.</p>
<p>Diets are just reduced calorie Fads disguised by a clever gimmick. &#8220;Lose weight while you sleep&#8221; &#8220;Eat all you want and still lose weight&#8221; Not eating enough or cutting out certain food groups means your body may not be getting the energy it needs, or may lack certain nutrients. You will feel exhausted, light headed and experience some not-so-fun mood swings.</p>
<p>5. Dieting is Disruptive.</p>
<p>Dieting negatively affects your normal eating patterns. Diets can lead to binge eating, overeating and chaotic eating. When you diet, it is common to override your internal signals telling you to eat. You end up trying to use willpower or resist hunger signals and may even go as far as taking appetite suppressants. <p>For anyone who is not sure, a fad diet is one that promises quick weight loss and is usually popular for a short amount of time. So, that brings on the question, &#8216;Should you use a fad diet for the purpose of losing weight&#8217;?</p>
<p>Fad diets are tempting to choose because they claim to offer a quick weight loss solution. We live in an &#8216;instant&#8217; world where we want everything as fast as possible. However, we tend to <span id="more-170"></span>forget that the weight gain was not instant. Would you be able to resist an offer that claims to melt away all your fat within just a few weeks? I know you cannot! People often fall for such offers only to realize that they have been scammed.</p>
<p>What will usually happen with fad diets is that you will lose a few pounds very quickly but, and this is a big BUT, you will gain back all those &#8216;lost pounds&#8217; shortly! That&#8217;s one of the things that they don&#8217;t tell you. There are other side affects that you could suffer from by choosing fad diets! Prolonged use of fad diets may even cause untimely death!</p>
<p>Here are three reasons why fad diets fail:</p>
<p>1.Fad diets don&#8217;t necessarily change your bad eating habits:</p>
<p>Weight loss is only possible when you follow a healthy diet and also change your overall lifestyle habits. Instead of sitting in front of the TV for hours, you need to get up and move around. Instead of eating chocolate as if it&#8217;s going out of fashion you need to eat healthy, nutritional foods with as much variety as possible.</p>
<p>Bad eating habits are what made you put on extra weight in the first place so fad diets aren&#8217;t going to change those bad habits. That&#8217;s why any results you see are only going to be short-lived!</p>
<p>2. Fad diets are unnatural diets:</p>
<p>Most fad diets suggest that you follow unnatural meal plans. They tend to ask you to survive only one fruit juice and cabbages, or to drastically reduce your food intake, or starve for long periods of time &#8211; also known as crash dieting.</p>
<p>Some of them require you to survive on only one type of food such as protein-rich foods. By doing this you create an imbalance in your body&#8217;s nutrient equilibrium, with one nutrient being in excess and the other in deficit! As your body cannot sustain with a type of diet such as this for too long. This is the reason why you have to quit fad diets at some point of time or other, the sooner the better!</p>
<p>3. Fad diets can result in severe health complications:</p>
<p>Fad diets affect your health severely especially if you use them for a prolonged period of time. Depression, headaches, digestion problems such as constipation, impotence, dehydration, etc., are some of the maladies that may result from the use of fad diets. In extreme cases of prolonged use of fad diets, premature death may occur. However, many people quit their diet programs much before death could happen!</p>
<p>So, in answer to the question &#8216;Should you use a fad diet for the purpose of losing weight&#8217;? I&#8217;ll let you be the judge of that!</p>
<p>You CAN lose weight without the use of fad diets.</p>

<p>Dieting is one of the two major factors to be implemented to achieve successful and permanent weight loss. The other factor to be taken into account is to embark on a regular exercise program of about an hour&#8217;s duration each day.</p>
<p>The medical profession together with nutritionists insist that both diet change and regular exercises are vital for losing weight. Whilst one or the other will help with weight loss, the bes<span id="more-168"></span>t results are obtained when both aspects of a weight reduction program are carried out together.</p>
<p>For one individual on a diet within a family, then preparing food may present problems.<br />It would be far easier for the food preparer to give each person the same food, not only from the aspect of the food preparation, but also from the aspect of the whole family being seen to be supporting the dieter.</p>
<p>So for the overweight person who wants to diet, the big question is: &#8220;Which diet do I choose for the best way to lose weight?&#8221;</p>
<p>Of the multitude of diets in magazines, on the net, and on TV, which one should a person use?  How can a person evaluate each diet to determine if it will work and if it&#8217;s likely to get better results than another diet? How can scams be avoided?</p>
<p>Suggestions for helping to choose the right diet follow. Do plenty of research. Ask questions. Draw up a list of the pros and cons of each diet. Be aware of the expenses involved in buying particular food for a diet and any difficulty and time taken in preparation.</p>
<p>(1) Have a look at your national and local government websites for health/weight loss/dieting pages. Most such web sites these days give advice on where to find articles of interest and possibly where to find a range of diets.</p>
<p>(2) Check with your healthcare professional. He may have information about diets and dieting distributed by local hospitals. Hospitals have an interest in keeping the local people healthy &#8211; it makes their operation cheaper and easier.</p>
<p>(3) Have a look in your local newsagent/magazine store/bookstore/library for magazines/books with diets published by a reputable health organization. </p>
<p>(4) The weekly magazines have diet recipes. Again select a diet backed by a reliable health organization. Keep away from diets promoted by food companies &#8211; they might be pushing their own products. Choose a diet with easy-to-prepare meals and something the whole family will eat.</p>
<p>(5) Check the popular talk shows on TV &#8211; the latest &#8216;fad diets&#8217; or &#8216;super weight loss pill&#8217; are always mentioned. Be careful here &#8211; some of the products on these shows are there because money has been paid not because they&#8217;re good or they work. And don&#8217;t believe the line that the show&#8217;s host has successfully tested the product.</p>
<p>A well-balanced diet should contain enough of the necessary protein, carbohydrates, and the right sort of fats, as well as adequate minerals and trace elements. Because of this its advisable to select a diet recommended by the health professionals rather than one of the &#8216;fad diets&#8217;. So stick with the professionals and follow their advice.</p>
<p>The right diet not only helps to achieve weight loss permanently, but also ensures that the dieter is getting enough of the right vitamins and trace minerals in the right quantities. So the importance of selecting the right diet is critical not only for weight loss but also for maintaining good health.</p>
<p>For those people who are well overweight then constant monitoring of the situation by either a doctor or a nutritionist would be advisable.</p>
<p>The right diet is only one aspect of a program to achieve permanent weight loss, the other part being to start a regular exercise routine, with the emphasis being on &#8216;regular&#8217; to achieve any degree of success. Dieting on its own will result in weight reduction, but when combined with regular exercises, the amount of weight loss will be considerably greater.</p>
